Shalalat" is the third single off the #CoOwnaz presents CF Hustle: Portrait of a Gentleman project featuring vocals from J Walker XVI and production by myself. Track artwork by Mister. Once again inspired by legendary goon, Mr. Merriweather.

Detroit avant-rap collective #CoOwnaz invite you to take a hallucinatory journey with them to Bermuda, Bahama, and beyond with ‘Shalalat’ the second single off their recently released Portrait of a Gentleman compilation. Salmon-bearded rap slinger J. Walker XVI distills the wisdom of fifteen generations of his ancestors in the edification of Eddie Logix the Childhood Star’s timelessly tropical production. Pour up a tall glass of pineapple juice, hop on the mindwheel, and prepare to go “all up in that waterfall” with Detroit’s most experimental and fun-loving rap posse.

#CoOwnaz presents CF Hustle: Portrait of a Gentleman digital download and limited edition CDs available now via bandcamp. Enjoy!

The CF Hustle story begins, like so many modern legends, with the inflation of a blow-up bed. It was with the incursion of this bed, draped resplendently in Polo, that his residency in the #CoOwnaz Penthouse was concretized, inaugurating the first golden age of mini-cakes.”

I know places we can go…

"Last fall I was loafing around the penthouse, smoking Lord Dru’s blueberry killers, trying to come up with a sick video concept for ‘We Can Go’ while listening to Chief Keef’s marvelous Bang part 2 mixtape. The maestro and I had discussed a performance based theme for the video and I thought of Sosa’s compelling house arrest music videos which consist of little more than him and his posse lighting up blunts and getting wild. I thought it might be a fun idea to try to recreate the the most exquisite and well known of these videos, ‘I Don’t Like’ with a bunch of #CoOwnaz goons. We share the Glo Boys enthusiasm for the chronic and dancing with our shirts off so it wasn’t a huge stretch. On a whim I cued up the song with the Chief Keef vid and discovered to my delight that the two songs are almost the exact same length, and that Keef’s performance in the video conforms to ‘We Can Go’ in an oddly natural and compelling way. I showed the video to some of our friends and their reactions confirmed the enchanting Wizard of Oz - Dark Side of the Moon style parallelism between the two artworks. Eventually I was able to persuade the maestro to allow the video for a very different song composed under a very different set of alienated circumstances to serve as the official video for his most personal song ever. Shouts out to 3hunna.” - Doc Waffles

Lights On Rider Anthem" is the second single from Portrait of a Gentleman featuring vocals from Doc Waffles, James Linck, and myself along with production from Christopher Jarvis. Track artwork by Mister. Inspired by the lawless nature of our good friend, Mr. Merriweather.

What you know about a lights on rider though?

"An electrical malfunction in Eddie Logix Bonneville caused its interior lights to stay on pretty much all the time for a period of several months last year. We could have pulled the fuse or got it fixed but it’s not in the spirit of #CoOwnaz to diverge from the will of the Universe. So we were out in the streets riding dirty all summer, getting toasty in the Bonny with the lights on, because we have nothing to hide. We want you to see us behaving lawlessly." - Doc Waffles

Volume One is the first official compilation album from the Detroit-based record label: Young Heavy Souls.

These producers have captured their niche through unexplored sub-genres of hip-hop and electronic music. With their progressive sound, this body of work exemplifies what these artists value most - collaboration.

The majority of the team consists of artists local to the Midwest, but they join forces with musical talents from all over the United States. All artists featured on the current roster have made themselves a valuable asset to this creation. Several guest contributing artists are featured, including Spankalicious, Eddie Logix, and Heavy Color.

"With this project we wanted to showcase our growth as a team as well as spread our music to new audiences. Young Heavy Souls is a family, and this project represents the spirit and sound of our crew." - Creative Director, Matt Black.

Brand new remix I produced for the Charlie Beans track, “(I Know) What You’re Thinking” off his solo debut, howdareyou. The remix is available now for free download on Five30 Music. Enjoy!

"Logix hit me up about remixing a track on howdareyou. He said he wanted to work on "(I Know) What You’re Thinking" which was cool with me. I love that he actually did something different rather than throw my acapella over a new beat."
